Cambodian child

International Childcare Trust (ICT) believes that all children, regardless of socio-economic background, have the right to enjoy their childhood and reach their potential. We partner with local grassroots NGOs in Africa and Asia that protect children’s rights; in particular, organisations that address both the causes and effects of child poverty and sickness, and that advance the education of children who are in a condition of need, hardship or distress.

What We Do

At ICT we partner with local organisations that take an integrated approach to child development, combining the delivery of practical assistance with capacity building and advocacy initiatives. Both the effects and the causes of child poverty are addressed by using this integrated approach because, at ICT, we take responsibility for building sustainability into the projects we support. Practical assistance includes supporting direct benefits to disadvantaged children, their families and communities, e.g., primary health care, income generation schemes, vocational training and rehabilitation of children back into families and communities. We encourage capacity building in all the projects that we support, so that our partners are able to grow into strong organisations in their own right and not become dependent on us. Advocacy initiatives are supported, so local communities and governments in Africa and Asia become aware of their rights and take responsibility for addressing their own problems.

Cambodian children

Through ICT you can:

Give a child a safe environment to grow - £6 a month will protect a child from abuse and exploitation.
Send a child to school - £40 will enable an orphaned child to buy school uniform and clothes.
Train youths for a brighter future - £105 would help to provide bursaries for three deprived young people looking for options for the future.

£800 provides... child protection training to local businesses in Sihanoukville (Cambodia), such as hostels, tuk-tuk drivers and internet cafes, to enable them to recognise and report child abuse/suspicious behaviour and help protect local children from dangerous situations.
£1,000 provides... the annual salary of a teacher at Kalki Drop-in Centre in Pondicherry – who helps provide remedial/life skills education for up to 300 street children each day.
£1,800 provides... medical check ups, basic treatment & hospital referrals for 150 children living with HIV/AIDS in Tanzania each year.

Who funds our work?
Most of our activities in 2008/09 were funded by general donations from individuals and corporates raised through events, and grants for specific projects from UK trusts and foundations, institutional donors and government institutions.
