Rose from Uganda - One Year Later
Last year, International Childcare Trust was chosen to do an appeal for the BBC Radio 4 to draw attention to work of the International Childcare Trust and the plight of Rose, from Uganda, who had lived through horrific experiences after being abducted by rebels at the age of 10. The appeal raised an amazing £6889.
A year on, International Childcare Trust is pleased to bring positive news of Rose. KICWA has provided Rose with guidance on income generating activities to help her find her independence and the confidence to support herself and her family. Rose was provided with a start up capital of 200,000 Ugandan shillings (approximately 91 US$) so that she could set up her own business selling fish to the community.
Rose’s business has been a success thus enabling her to achieve so much since her bleak beginnings.
Here are just a few of her achievements in the last year:
- To date, from the capital provided, Rose’s business has generated a profit of 350,000 Ugandan shillings (approximately 160 US$)
- She is now able to take care of the basic needs of her children (medical care, clothing, shelter and feeding)
- Rose used part of the profit to buy two goats which provide her with extra income and a source of food
- She has planted an acre of groundnuts and sesame plants with the help of the profits and she hopes to have a good harvest
- She has become the bread winner of her family, and is now able to also meet the needs of her extended family.
We are immensely grateful to all our supporters who made donations following the BBC Radio 4 Appeal. Your generosity has given Rose and many more children like her, a chance in life. |
