Trustees

International Childcare Trust's (ICT's) Trustees are committed volunteers who offer their time and skills to strengthen our governance function.  In turn, ICT is committed to ensuring that our Trustees are learning and gaining skills from being on our Board.  Earlier in 2011 International Childcare Trust published a new Strategic Plan (2011-2014) with four key priorities.  The fourth priority (to demonstrate and improve our effectiveness) includes continuing to strengthen the governance of the organisation.  The Board currently has nine members (including a new Chair and Vice-Chair appointed in 2010) with strong international programme, financial, legal and small business skills.  The Board would benefit from gaining Trustees with skills in voluntary (particularly the international development) sector fundraising and marketing expertise; disability expertise; and/or an in-depth international development background in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Board meets four times a year, for a maximum of three hours, in central London in the early evening.  There are two subcommittees:  the Fundraising Strategy Committee and the Programmes Development Committee.  Our FUndraising Events Committee is now a subcommittee of the FRS Committee and it has many subcommittees of its own to organise different events.  Board members are expected to attend Board meetings regularly, and are invited to join one of the subcommittees and/or help in other voluntary capacities.  In addition, it is hoped they will attend the two-day Annual Consultation Meeting, as an essential part of their induction, which brings together representatives from all of our partner organisations, the staff team and Trustees to develop the capacity of the Partner Network.  THere will also be occasional Away Days or half-days for Board team-building, strategic thinking and planning.

Those interested in joining our Board are asked to read the Strategic Plan and the Annual Report & Accounts and write a letter to 'The Chair of Trustees' outlining what they hope to contribute to the organisation, what kind of commitment they are able to make, and enclosing their CV.  Candidates will be invited to meet the Chair and Vice-Chair, with the CEO for an initial discussion before being invited to meet the full Board, as an observer, at a Board Meeting.

It is expected that there would be a ‘getting to know you phase’ in which the potential Trustee would become involved with the organisation, for example by sitting on one of the sub-committees, before making a full commitment to becoming a member of the Board.

We are currently looking to recruit Trustees who fill the following skills gaps: (1) a Trustee with extensive experience of raising unrestricted funds within the voluntary sector (preferably within the International Development sector) to help us develop a robust Fundraising Strategy; (2) a Trustee who has extensive experience in International Development work in Africa; and (3) a Trustee who is an expert on disability to help us to integrate a more inclusive approach into all of our work.

Please send expressions of interest with CV to Vicky Cosstick, Chair of Trustees, to: vicky.chair.ict@gmx.co.uk
